Music I vibe with

It all started when I was a little kid listening to my dad's van Morrison and Niel diamond CDs in the car. I remember jamming out to Real Real Gone by Van Morrison when I was still in preschool. When I got a little older my grandmother bought me a speaker and after setting it up I blasted all the songs I knew, Forever in blue jeans, Brown Eyed girl, sweet Caroline, and Moondance were among some of my favorites. 


Eventually, I got my an iPhone and started to explore a little bit, I stumbled into Electric dance music or EDM. I played a lot of mobile video games including geometry dash which I think had something to do with my discovery of NCS or No Copyright Sounds which was my favorite artist in that genre.  At the time I was buying songs with iTunes gift cards. I pretty much listened to the same 100 songs over and over again. Other than NCS some other songs I listened to were  Ooh Ahh by Grits, Roses by the Chainsmokers, Pompeii by Bastille, and All time low by Jon Bellion. 


After spending way too much on iTunes gift cards it was time to make a more lasting investment. For my 16th birthday, my parents got me Spotify which I still have to this day. I was finally able to listen to whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. My cousin Cash was really into the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the time and I followed his lead. I liked them quite a bit. Soon after I was listening to a ton of music with my friend Max. We would hang out in my basement play magic with our friends and listen to music. 


Max heavily influenced my music taste. I vividly remember listening to Tommy’s Party by Peach pit, Homage by Mild High Club, The not Real Lake by loving, and Chamber of Reflection by Mac Demarco. It was coming of age music for sure....  When I think back to that time in my life those songs and nights are some of the most vivid things I can remember. Around this time I also started listening to rap with my soccer buddies David and Kai. Some songs included armed and dangerous by Juice WRLD, Rich & Sad by Post Malone, and quite a bit of Macklemore originally influenced by my childhood friend Zak. 


Over my high school years, I have listened to a ton of music ranging from rap to 70's pop and rock. my favorite genres are alternative, indie pop, indie rock, ethereal and rap. My favorite bands are The Symposium, TV Girl, Peach Pit, Cigarettes After Sex, Loving, Beach House, Vampire Weekend, The Growlers, Cage The Elephant, Ruby Haunt, The Strokes and STRFKR. Some of my favorite artists are Macklemore, Kid Cudi, Kanye and Mac Demarco.

Friends after spinal cord injury

      When I became a paraplegic the first thing I told my loved ones and friends was “I’m still me”. At the time it was all I wanted anyone to know about my accident, I didn’t want people to view me differently. My family was learning about my disability at the same rate as me, so there was not much confusion of how they should help or treat me. When I came home from my rehab hospital my friends greeted me with open arms and things were great, but as much as I wanted to pretend they were normal they weren’t. My friends didn’t understand how to help or what to do, but why would they? they wanted to pretend things were normal just as much as I did.         As I had to do in many situations after the accident I took charge and lead the way.
